Joe Biden - Religion
How important is his religion to Joe Biden?
In
Promises to Keep, Joe Biden wrote about the importance of his religion:
"My idea of self, of family, of community, of the
wider world comes straight from my religion. It's not so much the Bible, the
beatitudes, the Ten Commandments, the sacraments, or the prayers I learned. It's
the culture." - Joe Biden, 2007
This is a remarkably candid but disappointing statement since any religion that
claims to be Christian yet is based
"not so much" on
"the Bible" or
Jesus'
"beatitudes," which even
non-Christians admit is the greatest moral discourse ever given in history, or
the
"Ten Commandments," which is God's perfectly
holy law that drives sinners to the cross of Jesus (see
Justice of
God), can only be heretical.
Notice the stern warning with which God closed the last paragraph of the Bible (see
New Testament Manuscripts):
"For I testify to everyone who hears the
words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add
to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from
the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the
Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this
book." (Revelation 22:18-19)
And the Bible also specifically and sternly warns against any religion being based on
"the culture"
instead of the Word of God:
"See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow
and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic
principles of this world rather than on Christ." (Colossians 2:8)
Does Joe Biden's admission above mean that he is at
least honest?
