Every single 2008
Presidential candidate claimed faith in
Christ. But when asked
to share their Christian testimony and testify about their Lord, all but one
took cover. The lone exception was the California Republican Duncan Hunter.
Congressman Duncan Hunter unabashedly answered all
30 pointed questions about his faith. While we
didn't agree with all of Duncan Hunter
's answers, we
were impressed with the majority and particularly impressed with Duncan Hunter
's
unflinching loyalty to Christ (see
answer #9).
All other candidates heeded political strategists' advice to circumvent the
specifics on their faith, branded a "divisive" issue. Duncan Hunter heeded God,
who commanded:
"Always be ready to give a defense to
everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and
fear."
(1 Peter 3:5).
All other candidates prioritized winning the election at all cost. Congressman Hunte
r
prioritized
standing up for his
Lord and campaigned tirelessly, but left the election results up to Him.
GodVoter.org actually knew
little about Congressman Hunte
r until receiving his
Christian testimony, but was pleased to
endorse the candidacy of this
pro-life, 12-term Congressman and Chairman of the House Armed Services
Committee, an endorsement which he
publicly accepted.
That America all but ignored this eminently qualified, true Christian candidate
is an indictment not of his candidacy but of the country, including the
evangelical
Christian
conservatives and other
values voters.
But a weightier indictment may be the one that awaits the other candidates when
they meet their Creator, who said:
"For whoever is ashamed
of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of
Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy
angels." (Mark 8:38)
Congressman Hunte
r voluntarily retired from his Congress
ional seat in 2008 at
the relatively young age of 60.
GodVoter.org
will be pleased to see him or another candidate with his profile and courage run
for the White House in
2012.
Our Presidential rating of Dunca
n Hunte
r remains an
A.
